The Historic Sant Francesc Church, Renovated by David Closes

We barely able to see the Sant Francesc Church. This church was built by Franciscan priests between 172-1729 and  had a very beautiful shape of its time. Over time, the church became increasingly in deteriorating conditions. This church could have been only history because many people ignore it.

It was very sad to see it get destroyed and we just watched helplessly, the church is a monumental building and historic monument. The Santpedor city opted to renovate it so the church survived evethough a lot of people wanted to destroy it. The shape of the church was terrible and given the fact of it, it was a bold move. In the walls it had holes and a façade in severely damaged condition. The church was transformed into a cultural space by Architect David Closes so the church could be used again.

During the process, the architect had to make the building usable again so he began adding some modern elements and preserve the original structure as well the original charm of the building. The modern elements were necessary to make it up to date. This difficult project was accomplished in seven years. The damaged façade can be preserved and the beautiful arches, liturgical spaces and anything could be saved from the ruined building. The parts that were too severely damage couldn’t be restored so the architect opted to use modern volumes to replace them. With his efforts he could save anything and those that were too ruined to save was replaced.
