Minimalistic Modern Design The Boler Church

Can you identifiy what this building is? Well, it looked unusual indeed especially on the exterior but this building is a church. This church has a modern touch and located in the Republic of Norway, precisely in the city of Oslo. The interior and exterior of this Boler church is very minimalist and different with conventional churches. This church was designed by Hansen Bjorndal as a result of a competition in architecture in 2004. This church is quite extensive and has an area of approximately 3,231 square meters.

There are three major levels on the church with specific functions. The basement is used as the chapel, the second level located on the ground floor works as the congregation hall while the top level works as the church hall. All noises that came from the east and the traffic are obscured by protections made of bricks in the form of a side wing. This church is even given a patio that reach the exterior and a gateway is made available for visitors to reach the patio. The design of the interior as well the exterior are similarly simple. The exterior and the sidewalls are provided with glazes.

The internal part of the building is so functional. The area inside the church is given vertical orientation and the areas intended for administrative and support are available in the side wings. It was Lars Ernst and Hansen Bjorndal who designed the furniture while Barbro Raen Thomassen and Thomas Hestvold created the artwork. A youth club and a kindergarten which located in the base level is the elements which differ this church from other conventional church in general.
